Noel Meek is an improvising musician from Ōtautahi (Christchurch), New Zealand, working with electronic, electroacoustic and found instruments. His output has been described as “sheer joy . . . unexpectedly bottled in analogue gizmo rituals.” (The Wire), “chaotically playful noise music,” (The Quietus) and “pretty whacked,” by Byron Coley. He has played and recorded with the likes of Sun Araw, Lasse Marhaug, Richard Youngs, Mette Rasmussen, Patrick Shiroishi, Roger Turner, Neil Campbell, Alexander Tucker, Tetuzi Akiyama and Bruce Russell. Reuben Derrick grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, where he works as a saxophonist, clarinettist, sonic artist and composer, active in New Zealand and Australian exploratory music communities. In addition to reeds he plays keyboards and found objects. His influences are eclectic. His doctoral dissertation ‘Acoustic illuminations: recorded space as soundscape composition’ (2014) draws upon field recording and improvisation. This work featured locations in New Zealand, Australia and Sri Lanka. His soundscape works have been awarded the Lilburn Prize for Composition three times. Ongoing projects include punk-jazz collective 'Poltroon', sound design and music with Rory Dalley, for Free Theatre (recently Alice, The Black Rider and Frankenstein) , as well as multi-disciplinary collaborations with dance (Movement Art Practice and Kyungmi Kim), sculpture, circo-arts, poetry and film. Bio

Michael Gordon attended Sydney Conservatorium and has spent the last 10 years living in Sydney. He has performed with many of Australia's finest jazz musicians such as John Harkins, Andrew Dickeson, Michael Griffin, Dave Panichi, Arthur Washington and Geoff Bull. He has also played many festivals with renowned Ethiopian singer Dereb Zenebe including the 2013 Tokyo and Iwate Jazz Festivals. Michael's music has been featured on ABC radio shows Daily Planet and Jazztrack and received multiple reviews in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian newspapers.

The Conscious Club presents to you an exciting day to celebrate Wāhine! This event is in celebration of International Women's Day. We have an EPIC day lined up for you!

Start the day with an (optional) 1 hour Yoga Class by Helen Griffiths in the morning light, at the Penthouse Box of Boxed Quarter. Following this there will be breakfast platters and then our 4 guest speakers will begin. Alongside this exclusive chat series we also have an all female art exhibition.

This is an intimate event hosted at Beat Box and Boxed Quarter.

FAQs
  • What do the paid tickets include? The paid tickets include all you can ride on all of the rides, amusements & bouncy castles. There will also be a specific 'Under 5's' area for the smaller children. Adults are more than welcome to accompany their children in this area if need be.
  • My child is 2-years-old. What do they get? They will be able to have heaps of fun in the under 5's area with multiple bouncy castles and amusements that are more suited to under-5's. There will be a disco room with a DJ playing children's music for them to dance in. There will be paid face painting + so much more!
  • What is the difference between a child and a student? A child ticket is for children under the age of 16 and the student ticket is for those that are over the age of 16 and still want to go on the amusements and bouncy castles. People holding a student pass will get a 'all you can ride' wristband upon entry.
  • Will there be eftpos available? Yes there will be! However, we do suggest bringing cash for the food stands and market stalls.
  • Will there be door sales? Yes there will be, however these will be limited. So we suggest pre-purchasing your tickets to secure your spot on the day.
  • Does my ticket allow me to come on both days? No it doesn't. However, you are more than welcome to purchase a ticket for each day! We'd love to have you.
  • Will there be toilets available? Yes there will be. We will also have wheelchair accessible toilets available too.
  • Is there parking available? There is a carpark right next to the event called 'The Good Spot', however, if there is no parking available in there, there is plenty of parking around the city that is in easy walking distance to the event.
  • Can I bring a pram? Absolutely! There will be plenty of room for you to walk around with your pram and places to park it if needed.
  • Can I bring my own food for my baby? Yes of course!
  • Can I bring my own drink? Yes you can, water and milk is fine. Other drinks will be available to purchase at the event itself.
  • Can I bring my own food? We will have food available on site for all dietary requirements, so no need to bring your own!
  • Is my time in the event limited? No, not at all! You are more than welcome to stay the whole day if you like!
  • Can I leave the event and then come back? Yes, you can. You will just have to collect a wristband as you leave so you can come back in.
  • Is this a breastfeeding-friendly event? Absolutely! We will have a designated area in the Under-5's area for breastfeeding & nappy changes. It will be a private area for your comfort.
  • Is this a dog-friendly event? No it is not. We want to ensure the safety of everyone at the event, so please don't bring your doggos along (even though we know they are probably super cute!)
