Welcome, Seagar Design Studio + Store!

Laura Taylor (SALT District trustee)

We are so excited to see Seagar Design move into the beautiful retail space next to WORLD at 181 High Street in the stunning Mackenzie & Willis building. Laura at SALT Distict had a chat to Natalie Seagar about what Seagar Design offers and what drew her to SALT District.

Natalie: Seagar Design Studio + Store houses a unique offering of art, objects and interior design that asks for a high stud, lots of natural light and an architecturally interesting building / space. So we were drawn to this beautifully restored heritage facade, and the lofty spaces within.

We also wanted a boutique destination-style location with great local cafes and like-minded neighbours, so this wee pocket of High Street ticked all the right boxes. We love how accessible this spot is to people from all over Christchurch too, with plenty of parking options nearby.

Laura: Awesome! So, Natalie, what's your background - how did you come to design interiors?

Natalie: I studied a Bachelor of Design at Massey in Wellington before working in the industry for a few years, trying my hand at many different things; textiles, brand design, events, furniture. But it is very much a family thing! My mum - and now also business partner - Adrienne, started the business almost 30 years ago. I joined her in 2018 to expand the studio and create the store offering - with plenty of input from the other creatives in our family too!

Laura: That's a great story! Now that you're settled in and exploring what the area has to offer, what's become your favourite experience in SALT District - and who do you like to take there? (pet? family? kids? friends from out of town?)

Natalie: It’s so easy to “make-a-day of it” here in the SALT District. When Mum and my sister are visiting, an ideal 'girls day out' would be; a yoga class to start the day right at O-Studio, then downstairs for coffee and a bear claw at Grizzly, a spot of shopping at Plume, lunch in the sunny little nook that is Tom’s, catch an afternoon movie at Alice, drinks at Seven (we love their spatial design + the view!) and pasta for dinner at Earl to finish the day off right!

Laura: Well, we love your taste! And what a day out in the District that would be! All the best with your new store and we so look forward to seeing you around and supporting your success.
